GET OUT: Five Ideas for Your Weekend

Catch some beads, buy a velvet Elvis and search for the Holy Grail this weekend.

Ah yes, it’s that time again. It’s Mardis Gras and it’s time to Party Gras. But that’s not all. You can also search for the Holy Grail, stroll 7th, learn about our pachyderm pals and buy some art for a good cause.

Why Go: Enjoy mingling with folks who care about 7th Street. Enjoy good music, food and conversation. There will also be a raffle.

When/Where: 6 p.m.-9 p.m. Friday, March 4 at AIDS Assistance Thrift Store, 2011 E. 4th St., Long Beach, CA 90814-1001

Why Go: Get a special sneak peak at all the interesting artwork donated to this thrift store over the year before their big sale starts on March 5. There will be food, music and some super funky art.

When/Where: 3 p.m. Saturday, March 5 along Shoreline Village Drive in Rainbow Harbor

Why Go: This year, the festive runs from the Aquarium of the Pacific to Shoreline Village. Immediately after the parade, there will be the in the Shoreline Village parking lot. Enjoy live bands, Louisiana-inspired food, Hurricane drinks and a costume contest. Wear your beads for sure.

Pricing: Parade is free, concert is free until 7 p.m. and $10 after 7 p.m.

When/Where: 11:45 a.m. Saturday, March 5 at The Art Theatre of Long Beach, 2025 E. 4th St., Long Beach, CA 90814

Why Go: Executive Producer Melya Kaplan joins the audience for a Q&A after viewing Elephants + Man: A Litany of Tragedy. The film chronicles the experiences of elephants kept in captive environments. Proceeds go to the Elephants in Captivity Awareness Campaign.

Pricing: $7 in advance, $8 at the door
