In college, I slid down snowy hillsides next to kids on dining hall trays, frisbees and incredible sled contraptions hewn from cardboard and garbage bags. We who couldn't pass Econ were suddenly gifted innovators when fun was involved. This weekend is a tribute to that creative spirit. Crazy windsports, gnarly roller derby and - gasp - a combination of breakfast and lunch? I can't wait to see what we come up with next.

Why Go: Thrillseeking humans have found many ways to harness the wind for the pure fun of it, and this festival celebrates them all. Attendees can demo gear, race stand up paddleboards, launch off the water in kiteboard jumping contests, and race regular kites too. Alfredo's will be offering Hawaiian barbecue and hosting a beer garden as well.
