Two blue whales were spotted Sunday by passengers onboard the Christopher as part of Harbor Breeze Cruises, which sets out of Rainbow Harbor in Long Beach.
Captain Carl Mayhugh and the group of whale watchers came across the pair near the Huntington Beach oil rigs, according to Phil Friedman, Patch fish columnist.
According to Friedman, the whales showed their flukes to the group a couple of times as they made their way around the rigs during the noon trip. Numerous reports of large amounts krill in Southern California waters recently, which is a favorite food source of the might blue whale could the reason behind their visit. (Read more here…)
