Zagat Names Local Pizzeria Best in Country

“What an honor,” said Michael Dene, proprietor of Michael’s Restaurant Group.

News Release:
Zagat Names Michael’s Pizzeria Best Pizzeria in U.S. and Los Angeles
Michael’s Pizzeria in Long Beach has been named the Best Pizzeria” in the United States, according to the experts at Zagat, leaving the undefeated Tony’s Pizza Napoletana in San Francisco’s North Beach neighborhood to finally relinquish the title.
Michael’s Pizzeria was also named the Los Angeles “Best Pizzeria” for a second year.

“What an honor,” said Michael Dene, proprietor of Michael’s Restaurant Group, and whose portfolio includes Michael’s On Naples, a fine dining, contemporary Italian restaurant, and Michael’s Pizzeria.

“We opened a little more than two years ago, and for the second year in a row, we have been named the Best Pizzeria in Los Angeles.

"We managed to top that by being named the Best Pizzeria in the United States, a title Tony’s in San Francisco has held for years.  It’s very humbling, and I’m extremely proud of my staff who works in the front of the house and the heart of the house.”

According to Dene, Michael's is the real deal.

“Michael’s Pizzeria was born out of necessity,” says Dene, a New York City native and the son of Italian parents.  “I wanted realItalian pizza, not the take-out, cardboard variety we’re accustomed to eating in the United States.

There was no place to go for that experience, and I feel as if Michael’s Pizzeria has filled a culinary void.   We pride ourselves on everything being made in-house, from our sauces to our cheeses.  Honestly, it’s like having pizza for the very first time.”

Michael’s Pizzeria has three locations on Naples Island in Long Beach, Downtown Long Beach on The Promenade at Third Street, and in Rancho Mirage at The River on Highway 111 at Bob Hope Drive.  The restaurant is open daily for lunch and dinner.  For information, visit www.michaelspizzeria.com.

WHAT A JOKE! Have none of the judges ever been to NYC? I got a "pizza" at Michael's on Monday night. A disk of rubbery dough, covered with watery sauce, tasteless mozzarella and dried out prosciutto.

I agree, Michael's pizza is certainly nothing special
