The USS Iowa is a new fixture in the Port of Los Angeles following half a century of service. It waters with much fanfare. For a few days the battleship sat about three miles off while underwater divers scraped the hull clean. Then it drew thousands of spectators lining bridges and waterfronts for its final voyage into its Port berth.
Built in 1940, the battleship that served in World War II and shuttled President Franklin D. Roosevelt across the Atlantic aspires to be a world-class museum when it opens to the public July 7. It is looking for employees to add to its ranks.
