Seth Green, All-Star Writers and Artists, at Comic Con

Vendors said moving the convention to two days and playing up Halloween filled the hall with visitors. D.C. Comics' re-releases last month also helped attract a good crowd.

Long Beach Comic Con 2011 wraps up today with what vendors said was a better year than last. A combination of circumstances were responsible, said several booth operators at Long Beach Convention Center.

Consolidating the event from three days to two was one positive; playing up the Halloween and costume opportunities with a contest was another. It certainly didn't hurt that Zombie Walk was descending across Ocean on Pine, where a world record was being sought.

"It's been better, in terms of number of sales, than the first day last year," said Jimmy Jay of Jay Company Comics in Sherman Oaks, who had a large selection of the printed word for sale. "We're optimistic."
