Legends of New Orleans to Play at Queen Mary Park

It won't be hard to step into the Big Easy at Queen Mary's waterfront music festival in Long Beach.

From riverboat to luxury oceanliner, the sounds of New Orleans can be appreciated just about anywhere as some of the famed southern city’s biggest artists will prove on the waterfront at The Queen Mary Event Park on July 28 from 2 p.m.-10 p.m.

Taking the stage at the Legends of New Orleans concert are Kenny Wayne Sheperd, Irma Thomas, Allen Toussaint and the Rebirth Brass Brand, with sounds ranging from down-home blues to soul, R&B and brassy funk.

A successful young blues guitarist from Louisiana who has played with the likes of Stevie Ray Vaughn, Kenny Wayne Shepherd has had numerous Top 10 hits, such as The Place You’re In in 2005 and Alive the year before.

R&B stars Irma Thomas--who is known as the soul queen of New Orleans back home--and  Allen Toussaint will bring their own talents to a genre of music that has a rich history and continues to thrive.

Guitarist, pianist, producer, composer and much more, Toussaint has collaborated with countless artists in his more than 50 years of musicianship from ‘60s rockers to current greats, like the Rolling Stones, The Who, The Band, Jerry Garcia, Joe Cocker, Alison Kraus and Robert Plant.

Adding some heavy funk to the mix is a group who was born in the French Quarter, the lively and raucus Rebirth Brass Band, which, as their name indicates, blends old-time tradition with current music styles.

Rounding out the acoustics are flavors straight out of Louisiana courtesy of vendors serving up New Orleans fare.

General admission is $35. VIP tickets are available for $75, and include a VIP entrance, parking, lounge and four drink tickets. For more information or to buy tickets online, click here.
