Labor Day Travelers See Gas Prices at Record High

Prices jumped 13 cents this week, making the holiday weekend the most expensive ever.

A surge in gas prices this weekend has made this Labor Day weekend the most expensive, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California.

Gas prices jumped almost 2 cents day this week, breaking local records.

The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.867 per gallon, a 13.6-cent jump from last week and five cents higher than last month. That’s also 82 cents higher than last year.

In the Inland Empire, the average price at the pump is $3.836, 12.8 cents more than the previous week, four cents higher than last month and 80 cents more than last year.

“Gas prices have gone up around the country over the past week, but not by double digits as we’ve seen in California,” said Auto Club spokesperson Jeffrey Spring. “Refinery issues are being blamed for the spike, and unfortunately that means holiday travelers will be paying prices for their Labor Day fuel that are near or beyond what they paid in 2008, our record-breaking year for gas prices.”

According to the Auto Club, about 2.32 million southlanders are expected to head out of town this weekend, with 80 percent – or 1.89 million—expected to hit the roads.

The following are the local stations selling the cheapest gas for your Labor Day Weekend. Local prices are according to GasBuddy.com and reflect prices reported within the last 24 hours. These stations' prices vary but were listed at $3.79 lowest regular. For instance:

Articles about what where gas prices are going and theories are great but doing something to help the consumer save a buck is a whole other story. Who the hell knows what gas prices will be the next time we go to the pump. All I know is that I am tired of paying huge gas prices. Here is a tip about a new type of Auto Club. I use their membership gas card by sticking it into gas pump and it gives me 10% right back to my account for the gas purchase and I guess some other benefits too. It is really no hassle. With money we save, we enjoy more trips, movies and family fun stuff. It might be worth it for you to check it out. http://gaspainrelief.mygasdiscount.net , the more that are doing this the more they can discount - its kinda like Cosco or Sam's Club in that way. The more you know, the more you save! Ask.

Hi James, I went to this site and discovered it is your site, or created by you. How do you manage to offer 10% savings?
James Horak September 4, 2011 at 12:55 pm
The web site is provided by Global Gas Card internationally.I found out about it through a friend and wanted to share it with anyone who does not like these high gas prices. All the info on how it works is on the web site and if you need any additional info please call me. I also found another gas card, with alittle effort you could eliminate your gas expenses. Just thought consumers should know how to win the war against high gas prices. Jimm Horak 715.442 2272

Prior to his election as a write-in candidate, Councilman Patrick O'Donnell told the Long BeachRead More Business Journal on February 28, 2012 the following:***** LBBJ: If you win the reelection, will you commit to a full four-year term?***** Councilman O'Donnell: If you run for four, you serve four. ***** LBBJ: So, you're not going to run for Assembly in two years? ***** O'Donnell: Correct. ***** LBBJ: No matter what? ***** O'Donnell: Correct. If you run for four, you serve four. ***** If you can't trust O'Donnell's word, why would anyone vote for him to be their representative for political office? ***** http://www.lbreport.com/news/jan13/odonlbbj.htm

And do his supporters care about this, do you think? No doubt others will.
Mike Ruehle June 3, 2013 at 11:43 pm
Regarding, "do O'Donnell's supporters care?", many of O'Donnell's supporters are inRead More elected and appointed public positions, and their support of O'Donnell includes placing the financial burden of a $150,000 special election on the taxpayers. I would think that a responsible journalist would ask each of them about that issue.
This is what the new path will look like.

This opinion piece is so full of self-serving hot air it could float. Two paths will make the beachRead More look like a freeway? The author clearly hasn't seen too many freeways lately. Speaking of seeing, if the author would care to spend a little time looking at the beach (which I do on a daily basis, as I live overlooking the Bluff) they would realize that the current bike/pedestrian path is the most heavily used and enjoyed segment of the beach from the Belmont Pier to Shoreline Village. On any given day, there will be hundreds of people on the paths, compared with a handful on the sand itself. The author inadvertently makes that point when he or she writes that the beach "...should be valued for its own recreational value." Clearly, many more people enjoy walking, running or bicycling on the path than on the beach itself. Give the people what they want, and not what a mysterious, nameless, faceless group is trying to block.

Uh, Richard? Opinion pieces are by nature self-serving and one sided. I'm not saying that is agreeRead More with the opinion, just saying that gordana can have her say.
