Video: Joan Jett To Headline Grand Prix Concert

Long Beach's most famous annual road races boast entertainment over the April event weekend.

Rock band Joan Jett and the Blackhearts will star in the Saturday night concert of the 38th Annual Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach April 13-15, it was announced Wednesday.

 The concert will begin on the Long Beach Convention Center outdoor stage at about 6:45 p.m. Saturday (April 14) after the day's racing events. The concert sponsor, Tecate Light, will also sponsor the Fiesta Friday concert featuring two "popular Hispanic bands" not yet  announced. Both concerts are free to race ticket holders, promoters said.

Grand Prix veteran Communications Director Chris Esslinger said in his news release:

"Jett, leader of the hard-rocking Blackhearts, is widely-known as an originator,  innovator and visionary, with eight platinum and gold albums and nine Top-40 singles, including the classics 'Bad Reputation,' 'I Love Rock 'N Roll,' 'I Hate Myself for Loving You,' 'Do You Want to Touch,' and 'Crimson and Clover.'"

 “I love Long Beach,” Jett is quoted as saying. “And I’m really looking forward to playing at the Grand Prix!”
