Free Scoop Today at Ben & Jerry's Long Beach

The beloved ice cream maker celebrates its 37th annual free scoop day but its website crashes from the load of traffic. But Patch called the local store to confirm: it is on.

No it is not too good to be true, yee fans of Ben & Jerry's: a scoop of their ice cream is free today, and Long Beach's B & J is participating.

The company, celebrating its 35th annual "free cone day," urges customers to call their local store first to confirm it is part of the free cone (or cup) event.

We'll stear you to our local store's Facebook page, because the company's website has reportedly crashed or seized under the heavy traffic that free ice cream naturally brings.

The Long Beach shop is near Edwards movie theater in the Towne Center shopping complex off the I-605 Freeway, and it is open until 8 p.m., it's recorded phone line states.

We will forgive them, for this is a company that actually named a flavor of ice cream after a line from a Saturday Night Live skit. If you remember, tell us in Comments below.
