BSBA Adopts New Mobile App

The Belmont Shore Business Association is hoping that the incorporation of a new mobile web application will help in advertising businesses on 2nd Street.

The Belmont Shore Business Association is bringing its act to a smartphone near you.

The BSBA phone application is now available on web browsers for those wishing to keep abreast on Shore events, as well as locate the newest businesses the available on and close to 2nd Street, according to BSBA executive director Dede Rossi.

The application, which was developed in mid-November, does not require downloading, but instead can be used when visiting belmontshore.org on one’s iPhone, Android, or Blackberry device.

“We’re just trying to stay updated because pretty much everybody uses their smartphones,” Rossi said. “We just need to get more information out there about the Shore, so we think this should help.”

The mobile web application includes a Belmont Shore directory, as well as a calendar of upcoming 2nd Street events and a parking map.

The directory gives visitors the option of selecting a category from areas such as ‘Apparel and Accessories,’ ‘Dining,’ and ‘Fine Jewelry,’ to ‘Health and Wellness,’ ‘Pet Services,’ ‘Photographic Services.’

Visitors are then presented with a dropdown list of all shops in their desired category.

“Of course, we’re always wanting to keep up with state-of-the-art technology, especially with people who are having their cel phone as their primary communication vehicle,” said BSBA president Frank Colonna. “Putting an [application] out there so that people can use it and see what we have to offer in the Shore is just consistent with what the industry is doing.”

“It’s a big assistance to us because electronic communication is much more effective and not very expensive,” Colonna said of the decision to adopt the mobile web application. “So, we’re getting two bites of the apple.”
