405 North to Close At Night Except During Grand Prix

Expect nightly freeway closures until Friday, and you can thank the Long Beach Grand Prix for the reprieve.

There are already lots of reasons to love the Long Beach Grand Prix, but the Orange County Transportation Authority has given us a new one: no freeway closures this weekend.

Ongoing freeway closures in the Seal Beach, Rossmoor and Long Beach areas will be halted Friday (the 13th) and Saturday in honor of the race.

That’s not the only good news to come out of the this week.  OCTA announced that construction on the 7th Street Bridge is on schedule to reopen sometime this month, although an exact date has not been set.

With the exception of the Friday and Saturday reprieve, nighttime freeway closures will continue to affect commuters this week.

  • The north 405 Freeway will be closed from Seal Beach Boulevard to the 605 freeway nightly this week, between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.
From the north 405, exit Westminster Avenue and turn left, proceed west on Westminster Avenue, then turn right on Studebaker Road and continue north to access the north 405 freeway.
    - OR -
Turn right on Seal Beach Boulevard, continue north on Seal Beach Boulevard / Los Alamitos Boulevard and turn left on Katella Avenue to access the north 605 freeway.
  • Construction activities on the access road along Old Ranch Parkway and the northbound 405 freeway are ongoing. This work is expected to last for two to three weeks and will require roadway compaction and paving activities along portions of Old Ranch Parkway and the northbound 405 freeway adjacent to Rossmoor. Please be advised that this work may be loud and disruptive to the neighboring community due to vibration, equipment noise, truck activity and back-up alarms.
  • Reconstruction of the Bixby Channel and Montecito Channel (adjacent to Martha Ann Drive / Copa de Oro Drive and the 405 / 605) is ongoing and is scheduled for completion later this month.  Please note, this work will be done during the day and may be loud and disruptive to the neighboring community.
  • A dirt embankment is currently in settlement on Seal Beach Boulevard adjacent to the fire station. This earth is being settled for the future Seal Beach Bridge widening.  Once the 7th Street Bridge and the Valley View Avenue bridge widening are completed, there will be Seal Beach Boulevard lane closures as crews work to widen the bridge, a project expected to take about a year.
