Power Outage Strikes Long Beach Friday Night

Southern California Edison reported Friday night that a "catastrophic equipment failure" at the Del Amo substation caused a power outage to 65,000 customers in Long Beach, Cerritos and La Mirada. By 9:30 p.m., power had been restored to 25,000 customers, SCE spokeswoman Maureen Brown said.

Readers on the East side of Long Beach as well as along the coast reported being out of power for a period, but it mostly was reported restored by 9 p.m. Reported outage also came from Lakewood, Buena Park and Los Alamitos.
