Great White Shark Spotted Hours Ago by Long Beach's Christopher

Whale watchers and local captain made the rare sighting off Southern California.

A rare sighting of a great white shark off the Southern California coast was made Wednesday about 5 p.m. from the Long Beach whale watching boat the Christopher.

Phil Friedman Outdoors (http://philfriedmanoutdoors.typepad.com/philip-friedman-outdoors/2013/06/listen-great-white-shark-spotted-off-the-southern-california-coast.html) blogged an exclusive report on the sighting of the great white, described as about 12 feet long by Christopher captain Christian Batts, off of Huntington Beach. Skipper Don Ashley from Pierpoint Landing beside the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach told Friedman he's never seen a great white in our local waters.

Batts said it was only the second time he's ever seen a great white around here, adding, "this is a day that the people on board are never going to forget."
