VIDEO: Song by Students Honors Salon Victims

The song “Eight Birds” (the track in the accompanying video) was written and performed by former Seal Beach resident and Los Alamitos High School graduate Christian Petite-Johnson in honor of the victims of the Salon Meritage shooting.

Johnson, who grew up near the salon, performed the tune at Saturday's memorial for manicurist Christy Lynn Wilson. He told mourners the tragedy inspired him to pour his heart into the song, which he recorded in his closet the day after the slayings.

Rossmoor resident and Los Alamitos High School grad David Durant also sang on the track. Petite-Johnson and Durant are currently students at Cypress College.

Town Hall on the Shooting; Fundraisers for Victims

• The city of Seal Beach will hold a Town Hall meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday to discuss the massacre. The session will take place in the McGaugh Elementary School auditorium, 1698 Bolsa Ave. At the meeting, the Police Department will outline its response to the incident and the Crisis Response Team will discuss the stages of grief being experienced by the community. The public will have an opportunity to comment and ask questions.

• On Oct. 30, there will be Cut A Thon fundraiser for families of the shooting victims from 10 a .m. to 3 p.m. at 330 Main St. Stylists from numerous salons will give haircuts in exchange for donations to the Seal Beach Victim’s Fund set up by the Seal Beach Chamber of Commerce. Suggested minimum donation: $10 per person.
