Patriot's Day Remembrance & Health Fair

Long Beach, CA – 9/5/2012 – American Gold Star Manor and St. Mary Medical Center have teamed up to provide the Long Beach community with a free community health event that will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2012 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at American Gold Star Manor residential community at 3021 N. Gold Drive (corner of Spring and Santa Fe) that will include free health screenings and lectures, music and entertainment, kids activities, hot dogs and other foods, drinks, and exhibits.

 Supporters of the event include Century Villages at Cabrillo, West Long Beach Community Association, Matson, Inc. and the Port of Long Beach.

An opening ceremony with a Posting of Service Colors, Pledge of Allegiance, and singing of the National Anthem will begin at 10:30 a.m. Terry Geiling, President of American Gold Star Manor, will serve as Master of Ceremonies. Dignitaries invited to participate include the Honorable Bob Foster, Long Beach Mayor; Mike DuRee, Long Beach Fire Chief; Thomas Salerno, St. Mary Medical Center President & CEO; Drew Gagner, St. Mary Medical Center Foundation President; and Sister Gerard Earls, St. Mary Medical Center Vice President of Mission Integration.

Keynote lecture speakers include Dr. Nik Kapoor, Cardiology; Dr. Ajay Meka, Senior Health;             Dr. Jason Koh, Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation;  and Pat Meier, RN, Safety Issues. In addition, guests will have the opportunity to learn about Zumba fitness and Dex Graham will be hosting a “Fit for Life” exercise demo.

Featured exhibitors include the American Red Cross, the Port of Long Beach, the Long Beach Fire Department, and the Coast Guard.

 

American Gold Star Manor

On January 24, 1975, American Gold Star Manor was incorporated as a charitable, non-profit corporation for the purpose of providing a National Home for members of American Gold Star Mothers, Inc., an organization formed in 1928 in Washington, DC that unites mothers who have lost sons and daughters in the service of their country. American Gold Star Manor is a 25 acre housing community that offers 348 apartments in a park-like setting to American Gold Star Mothers.
