Long Beach Symphony Orchestra Classics Opening Concert

Music Director Enrique Arturo Diemecke and the Long Beach Symphony Orchestra invite music lovers of all ages to the celebratory Opening Night Concert of the orchestra’s 2012-2013 Classics Season on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at the Terrace Theater in Long Beach.

The concert begins with Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3, performed by Van Cliburn International Piano Competition winner Haochen Zhang, who returns to LBSO after a triumphant performance of Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 2 with LBSO in 2011.

The concert also features Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5, which was very popular during World War II due to its musical expression of the idea of "ultimate victory through strife."
