Free Summer Night Jazz Concerts in the Park
Friends of Bixby Park is pleased to announce that it is hosting Free Jazz in the Park concerts Sundays from 5p.m. to 7 p.m., featuring Poly Jazz Combo. The series will run every Sunday through the end of August. Poly Jazz Combo’s young and talented musicians will present two programs, taking place at Bixby Bandshell:
“Great Jazz Composers” in July will highlight the works of Duke Ellington, Jerome Kern, George Gershwin and Cole Porter and “Masters of Jazz” in August will feature the works of Charlie Parker, Thelonious Monk, Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins, Joe Henderson, John Coltrane and Dexter Gordon. Bixby Park is located on the corner of 1st and Junipero Streets in Long Beach-between Broadway Ave. and Ocean Ave. For more information please visit www.friendsofbixbypark.org.

“Poly Jazz Combo performed at our annual fundraiser at the Long Beach Museum of Art last February and they knocked everyone’s socks off. These guys are serious about their jazz!” said Friends of Bixby Park President Claudia Schou.
The jazz concerts are open to the public, and concert goers are encouraged to bring a picnic basket and blanket. Friends of Bixby Park has partnered with local restaurants, including Park Pantry, Olives Gourmet Grocer, Café Ambrosia and Paradise Piano Bar & Restaurant, to offer concert goers picnic meals for $10 and under. A portion of the funds collected for picnic meals will be donated to Friends of Bixby Park’s Parcel 1 Renovation Project, slated to begin later this year.
