Descartes, at The Collaborative

Descartes, the Spanish word for something that has been ruled out, rejected, eliminated or excluded, is the museum's inaugural exhibition.

Organized by the Museum of Latin American Art, the exhibit features the work of Gabriel Boils, Dream Addictive (Leslie García and Carmen González), Jaime Ruiz Otis and Camilo Ontivero. The artists worked with discarded items -- industrial waste, used mattresses, old washing machines, tossed out electronics -- to create their pieces.

The Collaborative is a project of the Arts Council for Long Beach and the Museum of Latin American Art that presents exhibitions that raise awareness of emerging artists and new approaches to art. The project is funded by Lyon Communities through the Long Beach Redevelopment Agency's Percent for Public Art Policy.
