29th Annual Belmont Shore Christmas Parade

The 29th Annual Belmont Shore Christmas Parade comes to town Saturday, December 3, 2011 at 6:00PM. (NEW START TIME). A celebrated holiday tradition, the parade features approximately 75 entries including marching bands, local personalities and dignitaries, floats representing Long Beach businesses and associations.   Bringing the parade to a close is the favorite Santa Claus.

This year’s parade theme is ‘IT’S A GREEN CHRISTMAS”, RECYCLE, REUSE, RENEW! Entries are encouraged to embrace the theme through the decoration of their floats and costumes.

With an estimated 50,000 people lining the fifteen block stretch of Second Street, it should come as no surprise the amount of effort and preparation that goes into closing the street to the approximated 40,000 vehicles that travel it daily.

The following are the affected streets and the times of their closures:

  • Livingston Avenue will be closed from Ocean Blvd. to East Second Street at 3:00PM for the purpose of staging entrants.
  • Side streets from Quincy Avenue to Claremont Avenue will be closed from Second Street to north and southbound to the alleys starting at 4:00PM.
  • East Second Street will close from Livingston Avenue to Bayshore Avenue beginning at 4:30PM.

No property of any kind permitted on Sidewalk or center median until 5:00pm (chairs, blankets, tables, coolers, tape, chains etc ).  All items will be removed and taken to Bayshore Library for pick-up. Most importantly, they state that areas may not be “roped off”.  Such obstacles and possessions may be removed and taken to the Bay Shore Library for pick up after the event. The City of Long Beach has made this request for the purpose of protecting public safety and allowing pedestrian access along the sidewalk.
