2011 Global Park(ing) Day

On PARK(ing) Day, citizens all over the world transform metered parking spaces and parking lots into temporary town "parks."

The 4th Street Business Association, in collaboration with Fingerprints Records and Green Octopus Consulting will be showcasing urban spaces and "green" activities in and around the 4th Street/Retro Row corridor for this year’s annual global PARK(ing) Day event.

For example, the Number Nine noodle and beer house at 2118 E. 4th St. will transform its parking spaces out front into a lush park-like setting with an outside dining area.

The Edsel Lot at Fourth and Cherry will also be converted into a  "Sustainable Learning Center" where community members can make seed bombs, learn how to compost with worms and start a native plant garden.

There will be various other activites, live entertainment, and plenty of green spaces to lounge and visit with friends.

Not only will 4th street be participating, but the outreach has expanded down the street and across town including downtown, Cal State Long Beach, Bixby Knolls and in the East Village.
