'Dexter's Shooting near Boat Launch Monday

Update noon: Dexter is also on location today at Ocean Boulevard and Belmont, according to this On Location site.

Walking toward the Belmont Shore dog beach from the Granada Avenue parking lot, regulars gradually noticed something standing out this morning. The normally muted gray-blue lifeguard stand that blends into the sky and sea was half lime green. And a fence around the Alfredo's shack was cotton candy pink.

Security guards keeping watch on the bright property said the hit Showtime television show Dexter will be filming Monday. Crews were set up Friday night at Horny Corner, where Bay Shore Drive was blocked to traffic, and in trailers near the Claremont boat launch; staged near the Belmont Pool Friday night were extras and the white trailers painted "Miami Metro," where the character Dexter Morgan works as a blood spatter expert.

In the show, Dexter suffered extreme trauma as a child and the result leads to his avenging adulthood at the Miami PD, where he gains useful access to inside information about crimes solved and unsolved. 

Alamitos Bay along Bay Shore Friday night was dark and dreamy looking from the tiki-bedecked restaurant near the kayak rentals and Bay Shore handball courts. There more shooting for Dexter was taking place, crew members said.

Check out a few more recent Dexter locations around Belmont Shore. This Dexter location last fall was near Vista and Bay Shore Drive. Last month's Dexter shoot on Pomona Avenue involved all the action inside one home; at dusk, lights cast the home into what appeared to be high noon sunlight illuminating the outside and interior.
