Video: Scenes from Belmont Shore Turkey Trot

Set down your Black Friday shopping bags and enjoy a short video of the annual holiday tradition wherein a community that runs (or walks) together stays together.

Updated 11/26/11:Details of how much canned food donations were collected.

Happy Black Friday, Belmont Shore and we hope you are not having to lift a finger today unless it is in the name of a good cause. A sea of canned goods was collected at the 9th Annual Turkey Trot, organized by Community Action Team, a Belmont Shore-based nonprofit.

Specifically, four pickup truck loads of canned goods will be donated to the food bank for the CARE program at St. Mary’s, according to CAT spokesman Justin Rudd. http://careprogram.org/services/foodbank "We paid for the parking lots and asked folks to donate a canned good, in lieu of feeding meters," Rudd added.

Entry fees for 6,500 runners at this year's Trot will fund community programs throughout the year. CAT is led by resident and event planner Justin Rudd--he of the upcoming Santa Paws, last month's Haute Dogs Halloween costume parade, various spelling bees with prizes, monthly 30-Minute Beach Clean-ups (this list could take an hour).
