Unpredictable Storm Brings Big Waves and Weekend Rain

The storm that has been hovering all day is expected to bring rain tonight and Saturday but not as much as originally predicted.

Another wet weekend is in store, but it looks like the incoming storm will pack less of a punch than initially forecast.

The best chance of rain in Los Alamitos and Seal Beach comes tonight, when there is a 60 percent chance of showers, according to the National Weather Service.

Earlier this week, meteorologists predicted periods of heavy rain and high-elevation mountain snow. But they said Thursday that this storm, a low-pressure system about 500 miles west of Eureka, is a difficult one to predict.

"The rain chances and rain totals currently forecast are subject to change and may be reduced even further," Weather Service forecasters said. "A period of moderate rain is still possible sometime on Saturday west of the mountains."

It's unclear how much rain is expected, but it appears most areas will receive between one quarter and one inch of rainfall, with the highest amounts expected along the coast, the weather service said.

The storm is not expected to be as cold as the one that blew into Orange County last weekend and brought nighttime temperatures in the low 40s. This weekend's temperatures will be in the low to mid 60s, with lows around 50 degrees.

The weather service also issued a high surf advisory through Saturday night with waves reaching four to seven feet high in much of Orange County with some waves peaking at 12 feet.
