Long Beach 'Bash Mob' a No-Show: A threatened "Bash Mob" attack in downtown Long Beach that drew a formidable police and TV news vans did not materialize by nightfall, police said late Friday. Organized via social media as a 2 p.m. Friday assault on innocent passersby in The Pike entertainment center, police were staged to handle a widespread breakout of roaming assailants that struck in a "Bash Mob" July 9th in the same area.

Long Beach Mayor Won't Seek Re-election to a Third Term: Long Beach Mayor Bob Foster, the former Southern California Edison president and handily re-elected incumbent, announced Tuesday that he will not seek a third term. Now that the city of nearly half a million is out of financial crisis, he said, he is bowing out with the proverbial wish to "spend more time with family." But he also acknowledged wanting to focus on other potential "opportunities."

Trayvon Martin Peace Rally Planned at Long Beach Courthouse: A peaceful rally is planned outside the Long Beach Courthouse Friday in protest of the acquittal verdict in the Trayvon Martin murder trial, the Press Telegram has reported. The noon rally was organized by P.E.A.C.E. - Protecting Everyone America Created Equality, which announced that it's aim is promoting harmony and equal justice.

Killers Re-sentenced For Long Beach Teen Murders: Two men convicted of the January 2008 fatal shootings of two teenagers at a crowded birthday party in Long Beach were sentenced again to lengthy state prison terms. A three-justice panel from California's 2nd District Court of Appeal had sent the case back to Long Beach Superior Court for re-sentencing after reversing Izac McCloud's conviction on 38 of 46 counts of assault with a firearm, and Jonzel Stringer's conviction on 46 counts of attempted murder involving others who were at the Jan. 19, 2008, party at the Masonic hall.
