Gay Pride Kicks off in Long Beach: A dizzying number of events are beginning to unfold for the weekend in Long Beach as part of what's become the fourth largest lesbian and gay pride celebration in the country.

Officially, the Long Beach Lesbian and Gay Pride Festival  kicks off Saturday and concludes with the Gay Pride Parade Sunday. But it is such a huge celebration -behind only Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York City - that all the fun cannot be contained in just two days.

60 Speakers Share Their Careers With Rogers Students: More than 60 people plus members of the Long Beach Fire Department will share their careers with the 900 students of Rogers Middle School Friday morning, and it's a striking range of professions.

Thieves Rob Long Beach Jewelry Store: Three masked robbers struck a Long Beach jewelry store Thursday, swiftly disabling a clerk and customer with pepper spray in a smash-and-grab heist, police said.

The robbery happened about 1:45 p.m. at the Rush-A-Fix Jewelry & Watch Repair at 495 W. Willow St., according to Sgt. Aaron Eaton of the Long Beach Police Department. The thieves broke glass countertops and and stole an unknown amount of jewelry, but not before spraying the clerk and customer with pepper spray.

Woman Killed in Long Beach Hit-and-Run: A Long Beach woman was killed Wednesday in a four-car collision caused by an alleged hit-and-run driver, who was later arrested at nearby Long Beach City College, police said. The victim was identified by police as Elane Logay, 47.
