Tall Ships' Mock Cannon Battles May Be Noisy
The historic tall ships will be gracing the seas off Long Beach's coast this weekend and next, and tickets are being sold to board.
Tall ships staging mock cannon battles off the Long Beach coast today and Sunday are expected to create loud blasts that will be heard in the city and possibly nearby coastal towns.
But residents should not be alarmed, police said. The battles will take place between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, the venture's website and the Long Beach Police Department report.
The event is being staged by the Aberdeen, Wash.-based Grays Harbor Historical Seaport Authority, a nonprofit organization that operates two tall ships. Anyone who hears a blast they suspect may not have originated from the mock battles is encouraged to contact authorities by calling 911 or Long Beach police at (562) 435-6711.
