Small Earthquake Hits 8 Miles off Catalina Island
The 2.6 magnitude quake struck the San Pedro Channel about 26 miles south of Long Beach but no damage is reported.
A 2.6 magnitude earthquake shook the San Pedro Channel, automated seismographs reported Sunday.
The small quake's epicentered was eight miles northeast of Avalon, on Santa Catalina Island, at 8:31 p.m. Saturday. There appeared to be no known reports of it by the public.
The location would be 26 miles south of Long Beach and 43 miles south of the Los Angeles Civic Center. USGS seismographs indicated that the quake was very shallow.
