Because my mother is gone, my stories about her involve tears. But given that she reminded me and my siblings of Lucy Ricardo, the stories usually end with us laughing. One involved almost running over a Bob's Big Boy carhop. Then there was the time my Dad insanely put a few of us kids in the rear of the VW bug, and for the next 2 hours, taught my Mom how to drive a stick shift. Nearly dropping a transmission was never so funny.
It is these kinds of tales and photos that are worth sharing. Together, we can start forming a picture history of the mother's in our community. Will you help? You can also keep it short and sweet if you prefer, as in, I nominate my Mom because she always .....
We know that you daughters and sons, mothers and husbands of mothers, have your own favorites. Will you please share them with us? What will really make it come alive are Mom and Me photos. Or Me and the Kids photos. Or Wife and Kids photos.
With Mother's Day less than a week away, Patch is asking our Belmont Shore readers to submit Mom photos (including a kid) along with a few sentences in the caption box that tells why Mom is so special. Repeat caption box.
Patch will create a poll and, as the photos come in, add names of submissions so that readers can vote. You can also vote in the comments section below, and that vote will count as THREE votes.
All we ask is that one of the people pictured be from our community; could be mom, could be the nominating kid.
Voting will continue through 9 a.m. Wednesday, May 9. The top vote-getter will receive $50 toward a spa, floral, restaurant or shopping treat for mom.
That Mom will then join two dozen local winners to be part of a second round of voting, with that winner to receive a $1,000 Visa Gift Card -- for 1-24 odds.
Let's hear about your marvy mom; upload your story and photo.
