Updated: Scattered Power Outages Hit Long Beach

More than 700 Southern California Edison customers in Long Beach are left without power.

More than 700 Edison customers in Long Beach were without power this afternoon because of two separate power outages.

The first began just after 9 a.m. Friday. About 82 customers near Third Street and Cherry Avenue were left without power due to an equipment failure, according to Southern California Edison’s website. Those customers, can expect to have power back by 6 p.m., according to the power company.

A larger outage affecting 639 customers near the Marina near Pacific Coast Highway and 2nd Street remains a mystery. According to the Southern California Edison power outage map, the cause of the power loss is unknown. The outage began just before 3 p.m.

David Song, a spokesman for Southern California Edison said he thought the power was likely restored by 4:20 p.m. However, he could not confirm when or if the power was restored, the cause of the outage, nor which neighborhoods were affected by it.
