Patch Picks: The Super Bowl Crawl

Here are places that have special plans for viewers of the big game Sunday or are notoriously fun spots. They include hangouts for fans of the Steelers and Packers.

Starting this week, Belmont Shore-Naples Patch will run a new weekly feature called Patch Picks, highlighting editor and reader picks of local businesses, destinations, services, organizations, ways to spend a day off, and more.   You’ll find useful lists to help you, your family, friends and significant others find the best places for Sunday brunch, New Year’s Eve, date nights, kids parties, picking out a jack-o'-lantern or a dozen roses.

We start our list today with Super Bowl-viewing venues here and in neighboring towns. When the Steelers meet the Packers in the Pro Pigskin Battle Royale, you're unlikely to find a watering hole in our area that isn't carrying the game, and probably on multiple screens. Here are five spots with a range of atmosphere and food.

The scene: This classic sports bar has TV screens wall-to-wall, including one of the biggest you'll see outside a theater or sports venue. This year their annual Super Bowl party starts at 1 p.m., with a cover charge of $35, but that price "guarantees a prize valued $100-$300," Legends says, and a chance to win "over $30,000 in giveaways" (TVs, hotel accommodations, dining certificates, tickets, barbecues, memorabilia, sporting goods" and, they promise, "MUCH more....") They also will have a recording artist, Natalia, on hand to sing the National Anthem.

The scene: This old school steakhouse will open at 1 p.m. with the volume of its big-screen TVs turned up. In keeping with its vibe, the menu will include classic American sports-event fare -- chili, burgers and hot dogs -- along with discounts on its bar menu and many of its drinks. Live entertainment is included.

● , 5374 E. Second St., Belmont Shore

The scene: This Southern-themed barbecue joint with the orange outdoor smoker parked out front will offer an all-day happy hour with drink and appetizer specials. Seating is at picnic-style tables.

● , 5335 E. Second St., Belmont Shore

The scene: With its dive-bar atmo, it comes as no surprise to see this Belmont Shore hangout on steelers-fan.com's list of Pittsburg Steelers Fan Bars. Doors open at 10 a.m.

● , 5734 E. Second St., Naples

The scene: This cozily authentic-looking Irish pub will have discounts on its appetizers, its on-tap Guinness and beer pitchers. It supplements its pub fare, like corned beef and cabbage, fish 'n' chips and boxtys, with burgers and sandwiches. If the game starts to look like a blowout, this is probably where you'll have your best chance of getting a big-screen TV tuned to a soccer match.
