Operator of Former Club Evo to Meet Residents Tonight

Norman Turley will introduce Dogz Bar & Grill at the Belmont Shore Residents Assn. meeting and describe plans for the its site at Second and Glendora.

Tonight's monthly meeting of the Belmont Shore Residents Association will feature a visit by Dogz Bar & Grill operator Norman Turley, who will explain his plans for the presently closed building at Second Street and Glendora Avenue. The former home of the Club Evo restaurant and lounge, which abruptly shut down several weeks ago for unknown reasons, will be occupied by Dogz.

Club Evo had its vocal critics. There were frequent complaints by its neighbors of noise, property damaged by its patrons, and of the bar hosting live music or DJs in violation of its revoked entertainment license. But the club at 5300 E. Second was never shut down by the city.

Speculation about the departure may be cleared up at the neighborhood meeting at 6 p.m. at the Bayshore Library.

Here are discussion points as described in the association's monthly newsletter:

DOGZ BAR & GRILL, 5300 E. Second Street:
If you would like to hear about what is happening on the former Evo
location, Norman Turley will be at our next meeting to introduce Dogz and
advise residents how Dogz plans to operate. Speculation has been on-going,
so join us to learn about the pending operation.

DEBRIS COLLECTION PROGRAM CONTINUES:
The BSRA February 2011 newsletter advised in detail how and why the
program was started and continues. The "debris" consists of trash,
bottles, cans, vomit, etc. that appears to be a result of inappropriate
behavior of the customers leaving the Belmont Shore bars at night. The
clean up areas encompass both sides of each designated street which are
near one of the "five bars" (Acapulco Inn, Evo Lounge (now Dogz Bar and
Grill), Legends, Panama Joe's, and Shannon's Bayshore), from Second St. to
the seventh house in the block. For the last several months, residents may
have noticed the cleaning crews in the early morning hours, some using
flashlights to locate trash that is being picked up and or cleaned up. If
you notice and or find debris, you can contact the Belmont Shore Business
Association at 562.434.3066 or email to BSBA@belmont.shore.org. This
program is an ongoing effort to help keep the trash out of our
neighborhood. If you are not inclined to contact the BSBA, feel free to
contact Councilmember DeLong’s office at 562.570.6300 or email to
district3@longbeach.gov.

VEHICLE SIDE MIRRORS VANDALIZED ONE MORE TIME:
A few months ago, residents along Division St. near La Verne Ave. woke up
to find their auto side view mirrors were broken off or cracked. It
happened again on February 25th, between the hours of midnight and 6:30
AM. Vandals hit about seven vehicles parked on La Verne Ave. north of
Second St. One neighbor advised the cost to replace the mirror is about
$500; it is the second occurrence. If anyone knows of any information that
can lead to finding the vandals, you are encouraged to call the Long Beach
Police at 562.435.6711. Tips can be provided anonymously.

POLICE INCREASED SHORE STAFFING:
An additional officer is now assigned during the late shift and two bike
officers have increased their presence on their newly fitted bicycles. The
residents welcome the officers and I see several residents either saying
hi or giving them a wave, to acknowledge the additional presence. Thank
you Commander Lopez."
