Hospital Donates Gifts to Patient

Juan Jimenez and his family received gifts donated by the Miller Children's Hospital Long Beach.

Juan Jimenez and his family received donated toys and gifts from the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) care team and staff at Miller Children’s Hospital Long Beach.

The toy drive is coordinated by hospital staff and each year, the PICU Partnership Council adopts a family and organizes the toy drive surrounding them.

Juan Jimenez, a 5-month-old, has been in the PICU for three months and the staff unanimously decided that his family would be chosen for the toy drive this year.

“The toy drive donation shows how compassionate and dedicated the nurses and staff are in the PICU,” says Alireza Fathi, M.D., associate medical director of Pediatric Critical Care. “Families of patients, become our own families, and Christmas time is the perfect time to take care of them as if they are our own.”

Gifts donated include stuffed stockings, gift certificates and wrapped toys that the family took home to open on Christmas morning. The family opened one gift right away which was Disneyland tickets for everyone in the family.

“Words cannot express how much this means to us with everything going on with our family.” said Alvaro Jimenez, father of Juan. “We haven’t even had time to think about going shopping and we’re beyond grateful.”
