Long Beach Scout Ranger Files Suit for Dorner Reward

Richard "Ranger Rick" Heltebrake sues the cities of Los Angeles, Riverside and Irvine demanding the $1 million Christopher Dorner reward money.

A "ranger" for the Long Beach Boy Scouts who was carjacked by fugitive ex-cop Christopher Dorner during a massive Southern California manhunt filed a lawsuit against four municipalities this week, demanding the $1 million reward offered for information leading to Dorner's arrest.

Richard Heltebrake filed a lawsuit on Monday against the cities of Los Angeles, Riverside and Irvine claiming he is the rightful recipient of the $1 million reward after his information led to the final showdown and eventual death of Christopher Dorner, the Courthouse News Service reported

Also included in the lawsuit is Riverside County, the four other people claiming ownership of the reward money and the trustee of the Dorner Reward Trust Account, Courthouse News said. Heltebrake works for the Long Beach Area Boy Scouts Council, which owns Camp Tahquitz, where he lives fulltime.

"Rick Heltebrake's telephone call to the deputy established the current location of Christopher Dorner that directly led to his apprehension and capture," Heltebrake's Long Beach lawyer told Patch this month. "Until then, his exact whereabouts in the San Bernardino Mountains was unknown."

Heltebrake initially filed claims with the three cities for the reward money but those claims were turned down.

In the lawsuit, Heltebrake also seeks to prevent anyone else from getting the reward money, TMZ reported. Others, including a couple that was tied up by Dorner in their Big Bear before breaking free, are also claiming the reward money.
