In Memory of a Boy: Children's Hospital Receives Toys

Every year since 2005, Tyler Garcia's grandfather, John Hinton, collects toys to celebrate his grandson.

Toys were passed out once again to patients at Miller Children's Hospital this holiday season.

Collected year-round by John Hinton, the toys commemorate the passing of Hinton's grandson, Tyler Garcia, a former oncology patient at Jonathan Jaques Children's Cancer Center at Miller Children's. Tyler died in 2005 after suffering brain cancer and being struck by a car.

Each year since Tyler's passing, Hinton collects toys and brings them to the children at the hospital. The toy drive works closely with the Child Life program at Miller Children's.

Because of Hinton's donation, each pediatric patient at the hospital has been able to celebrate Christmas for the past six years.

The Tyler Garcia Annual Toy Drive took place again earlier this month at Miller Children's, 2801 Atlantic Avenue. Those interested in participating in the drive next season can call 562-933-8060.
