About 25,000 long-distance runners are expected to flood downtown Long Beach Sunday for the 28th International City Bank Marathon.
The race starts on Shoreline Drive, passes the Pike at Shoreline Village, crosses the Queensway Bridge and goes to the bow of the Queen Mary. It loops back around the Aquarium of the Pacific, the Lighthouse at Rainbow Harbor, Pierpoint Landing, back by Shoreline Village and down the beach.
At mile 10.5, half-marathoners will circle back west on Ocean Boulevard, while runners going the distance will continue east on Ocean Boulevard to Livingston Drive into Belmont Shore to Marine Stadium, Colorado Lagoon, Cal State Long Beach and the Pyramid Sports Complex, Recreation Park, Blair Field and the Colorado Lagoon back to Ocean Boulevard along Bluff Park onto Shoreline Drive.
Saturday, the free Marathon Health and Fitness Expo has been underway since 9 a.m. at the Long Beach Convention Center in Hall C.
``Up and Running Again," a nonprofit in Orange County, has reached out to the homeless and at-risk youth to participate, and about 70 people are expected to take part. The Long Beach Century Club will staff the Beer Garden at the finish line, with proceeds going to club charities.
