Long Beach Launches Bike Month with Mayoral Ride

Ride Your Bike to Work Day kicks it off with Mayor Bob Foster two-wheeling it from the beach to downtown Long Beach City Hall, with an entourage of enthusiasts.

Because Long Beach is such a cycling mecca, and especially so in Belmont Shore and Naples, you won't readily notice that a flood of National Bike Month festivities have begun rolling into town. This began Wednesday with Long Beach Mayor Bob Foster riding his bike to work, pretty much.

He lives on Naples Island, but began his ride on the bike path below Ocean Boulevard and Junipero Wednesday morning. Foster got an early jump on National Bike to Work Day, which comes May 13 to 17, according to the Press Telegram.

To celebrate National Bike Month, a host of biking activities, including the major Tour of Long Beach, will offer a variety of fun for singles, families and cyclists of all types.
