High Tides Bring Flood Danger

The National Weather Services is predicting the threat of flooding and beach erosion in the low lying coastal areas Sunday and Monday.

High tides approaching 7 feet in Long Beach may combine with above-average surf to cause some flooding along low-lying coastal spots, starting Sunday night, National Weather Service forecasters predicted today.

Minor coastal flooding and beach erosion could occur around high tide Sunday and Monday evening, mainly on beaches with exposure to the south and southwest such as Long Beach and Seal Beach, according to the NWS. High tides are expected to reach 6.85 feet at 8:54 p.m. Sunday and again at 9:39 p.m.

Moderate beach erosion and minor flooding could effect low-lying areas and parking lots in low-lying susceptible areas that include Long Beach, Seal Beach and Sunset Beach, and portions of Newport Beach, the NWS said.
