Local Author, 13, has Book Benefit for Japan Victims

All proceeds Will go to the American Red Cross for Japan's quake and tsunami victims.

Belmont Shore resident Karley Cable and her pet Pug will be at a reading and signing event this weekend for her new book, “Raisin – A Doggie’s Tale -- The Story of How I Went From Dumb Dog to Tail-Waggin' Tutor.”

Written and photographed by Cable, the heartwarming book is based on Raisin's real-life experiences, going from a neglected shelter dog to a hero as a therapy dog helping children who struggle with reading. The story sympathetically shows children about overcoming obstacles in their own lives and about rescuing pets instead of purchasing them from pet stores.

Cable, 13, a Rogers Middle School student, will read highlights from her book and Raisin will be giving “paw-tographs” at the event on Saturday, April 2, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Gatsby Books, located at 5535 E. Spring St., at Bellflower, in Long Beach.
