High-Heeled Howl'oween in Belmont Shore

Local event planner and Shore activist-ring leader Justin Rudd attempts to set a pet-parade world record. Dancing with the Stars costumer serves as a judge.

The annual neighborhood promenade of pets wearing costumes--Haute Dog Howl'oween Parade--has grown into such a mob scene of bedecked people and their pets that it was impossible for a spectator to count the total entrants. Suffice it to say that residents on some streets such as The Toledo threw yard sales Sunday to take advantage of the foot traffic.

Veterans of the parade planned parking as if it were the annual car show which draws tens of thousands. Locals were in high gear for Halloween all over the city this weekend and it wasn't even Oct. 31 yet. With the zombies walking and dancing to "Thriller" dances and dog costuming (and the juries were still out on three world records being sought for those as of this writing), Long Beach definitely had to have set a per capita record for the most costumed creatures who were not working on a shoot. And we certain must already hold a local record for photo ops per square foot.

One of the judges promoted for the parade was Randall Christensen, Emmy Award-winning costume designer. He was the costume designer for Dancing With the Stars since Season 2.
