Boeing Workers Donate $420,000 to Vets

The grants, through an employees fund, were given to groups that help military veterans transition back to civilian life.

Boeing's California employees recently gave $420,000 to groups that aid military veterans, according to the aerospace and defense company.

The grants to nine groups throughout California help veterans with the transition to civilian life and into jobs. The groups are Canine Companions for IndependenceNational Veterans Transition Service Inc.New DirectionsInjured Marine Semper Fi FundUS Vets InitiativeVanguard University, Veterans Valor Fund, Veterans Village of San Diego and Working Wardrobes.

The grants were made Dec. 7 during the Employees Community Fund of Boeing California Crystal Vision Awards ceremony. Since 1990, Boeing says, the fund has given nearly $6.5 million in Crystal Vision grants to 176 charitable agencies. The giving focuses on children, senior and veterans aid, as well as youth mentoring, teacher effectiveness and environmental and arts education.

“These grants will help engender creativity as the groups better serve those who have served us,” said Carrie Bollwinkle, executive director of Boeing California. “The goal is to grow the nonprofits' abilities to assist transitioning veterans and remove barriers that could hamper their efforts.”

Boeing has about 20,000 employees at more than 50 sites in California.
