Bike Local, Dine Local on Earth Day, April 22nd

Long Beach Eateries Give Discounts to Bicyclists to celebrate the annual green scene.

Get on your bike this Friday and ride to one of 21 bike-friendly Long Beach eateries to enjoy all-day Earth Day discounts for bicyclists, including 50% off coffee, 20% off meals, free appetizers, and more.

These restaurants and cafes are involved in the City of Long Beach's Bike Friendly Business District Program, intended to encourage merchants and their customers to choose bikes, not cars, for short trips.

In 2010, the City acquired grant funding from the LA County Department of Public Health Project RENEW to develop bike-friendly business districts in Long Beach. For the past several months, the City has been working with business districts (Bixby Knolls, East Village, 4th Street/Retro Row, & Cambodia Town) to become more bike-friendly.

Bicycling within the community is an integral part of local economic development because it encourages community members to shop and dine locally, minimizes traffic and parking issues, is often faster, cheaper, and less of a hassle than driving, increases safety, reduces air pollution, and is healthy and fun! The simple act of getting on a bike has far-reaching effects – not only for our health and environment – but also for our local economy.

To enjoy a discount, just mention the promotion and present your helmet at the time of purchase, and they'll know what to do!
