The historic Queen Mary is set host an influx of new sounds Saturday when tribute bands, acoustic acts, and headliners Rival Sons will seize the stage aboard Long Beach’s most famous ship in an evening dubbed Rock the Queen.
“We’re thrilled to introduce another new music event at the most unique venue in Southern California,” said Director of Entertainment Events Steve Sheldon for the Queen Mary. “By taking advantage of four different locations aboard the ship, Rock the Queen offers something for every type of rock music fan. And with local sensation Rival Sons headlining, it’s sure to be rockfest to remember.”
Dubbed as “one of the top five band to watch” by Huffington Post, Rivals Sons has been described as blues-infused hard rock band with the rhythm and roughness of some of the greatest rock acts of all time.
Recent accolades include a stint opening for legends AC/DC and Alice Cooper and several United Service Organization shows performing for the troops with Kid Rock. Rival Sons will take the stage at 10 p.m. in the Queen’s Salon with special surprise guest.
Also, the famed Observation Bar will provide an intimate setting for a variety of acoustic acts throughout the evening in the style of “MTV Unplugged”. Feeling nostalgic?
Starting at 7:30 p.m. the ship’s Royal Salon will transport music fans back in time from the 90s through the 70s. Decade-by-decade performances include No Duh, a tribute to No Doubt; Debaser, a tribute to The Pixies; and TNT, a tribute to AC/DC.
If that’s not enough, a live DJ on the ship’s bow will spin tunes under the night sky from 9 p.m. to midnight.
Rock the Queen promises to be a night of roaring guitars, incendiary vocals and pile driving beats. Tickets are just $20 and parking is $5 with validation. Rock the Queen is an event for all ages with the exception of the Observation Bar, in which patrons must be 21 years old or more.
The Queen Mary is located at 1126 Queens Highway in Long Beach. To purchase tickets to Rock the Queen or for more information, visit http://www.queenmary.com/rock-the-queen.aspx or call (800) 437-2934.
