On Friday December 7th, Assembly Member Bonnie Lowenthal of Long Beach, from California’s 54th Assembly District, will be presented with the Legislator of the Year Award from CalPACE. Lowenthal’s many contributions to the health and well-being of California’s seniors and her support for PACE (the Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly) with the authoring of Assembly Bill 574 make her a natural candidate for this prestigious award.The ceremony will be held from 11am-12:30pm at AltaMed’s Lynwood PACE Center located at 3820 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Lynwood, CA 90262.
Executive Director of CalPACE Peter Hansel commends Lowenthal’s authoring of AB 574 which when passed required the State Department of Health Care Services to expand the number of PACE contracts in the state to 15, and eliminate the requirement for pilot programs and demonstration projects. “Assembly Member Lowenthal is a tireless advocate for the rights of California’s frail seniors,” Hansel says. “Her ongoing efforts to keep seniors at home with their families are a personal benefit to thousands of Californians as well as a cost-effective model that will save the state crucial dollars during an ongoing budget crisis.”
