Monday Essentials: Lasagna Day, Discount Ruby's Burgers and Getting Breaking News

Here are some quick-starts for the week on this fine Monday morning, Long Beach.

1. Monday, July 29 is Lasagna Day! Check out our lasagna recipes on partner site Huffington Post or tell us where the best place is to get a lasagna in Long Beach. Angelo's Italian Deli has eat-in or take-home lasagna worth a bite and Michael's on Naples was named Best Italian Restaurant by the well-known Zagat Guide 2013.

2. If you like Ruby's Diner burgers, today is your lucky day: the 50's style restaurant chain is celebrating its namesake's 91st Birthday by "previewing its Ruby's NEXT GEN BURGER," it announced in a news release. Today only, said burger will be served up for the special price of $3.10 (for 31 years in business in Southern California). The Ruby's in Long Beach is at Pacific Coast Highway and Second Street. 4. Catching up with weekend blogs you may have missed, Chris Brennan shares his reasoning behind sending Murph Doggy Dogg to puppy daycare, where Bark Bark now offers video streaming of your dog, which has led to missed deadlines and late meetings.

5. Looking ahead this week, if government and politics are your interests, Long Beach City Council Member Robert Garcia, now a mayoral candidate, will be presenting a "State of the First District" on Wednesday, July 31 at 6:00 pm, at Molina Healthcare offices at 604 Pine Avenue. The event begins with a 6:00 pm reception which will be catered by the Kress Market on Pine, and the program and address will begin 6:30 pm.," Garcia's news release states.
