Monday Essentials: Back-to-School Information

Here are some back-to-school information from Long Beach Unified School District.

1.      School starts Sept. 4 for the approximately 80,000 students in Long Beach Unified School District. Some schools may have different start times, you can check individual school’s website for the updated start times and other information. 

2.      The last day for new middle and elementary students to Long Beach to pre-register is Aug. 27. Registration is done on first-come, first-served basis.

3.      For children who missed the cut-off date to start Kindergarten may register for the district’s transitional kindergarten program. There are limited openings. To be eligible to start kindergarten, children must be five years old by Oct. 1 per state law. Transitional kindergarten gives additional support for kids who turn five between Oct. 2 and Dec. 2.

4.      Students entering LBUD need to be vaccinated against polio, diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis B and chicken pox. Low-cost immunizations are available from the Long Beach Health Department

5.      For those students who ride the bus, letters have been sent out regarding bus schedule and other information. For parents who are unsure of their children’s bus stop should contact their children’s school directly.
