5 Things: Latin Jazz, Edison Scam and a Break in Grandmother's Murder Probe

Here are five things a Long Beach dweller oughta know today.

1. Beware the Southern California Edison scam artists, the utility warned customers Thursday. Impostors have been calling SCE customers and telling them they must pay past due bills immediately or have their electric service disconnected, according to the utility.

2. Reminder that the free 2nd Annual Latin Jazz & Blues Festival is this Saturday at Houghton Park, 6301 Myrtle Ave., in Long Beach. Performances are from 12 noon-8 p.m. Free and open to all ages, there will be a Kids Zone, food trucks and a Vendor Fair. Info: (562) 570-6137 or the show's Facebook page. Sponsored by Long Beach City Councilman Steve Neal, the show bill includes:
"area favorites Jazz Angels, Dat EZ Band, Box Car 7, DW3 and the Susie Hansen Latin Band, are New Blues Revolution," according to urbanmusicscene.com.

3. Police said Thursday they have witness details to a 2009 murder of a grandmother and have posted a composite of a person of interest in the case. Read more about the story and see the composite drawing plus a photo of a car that police say potentially was seen near the crime scene.

4. In another case for which police are seeking the public help, a Long Beach mother was killed Thursday morning after dropping her 3-year-old at a relative's apartment, and ducking out to retrieve a diaper bag, Long Beach Police Department said. Twenty-three-year-old

5. An early heads-up if you plan to commute via Metro train from Long Beach to the Justin Timberlake-Jay Z concert at the Rose Bowl this weekend: Most Metro rail lines, along with the Orange and Silver bus lines, will run a little later Sunday night into Monday morning to accommodate crowds expected to attend. City News Service reports that on the Blue Line, the final train to Long Beach will leave the Seventh/Metro station at 2:05 a.m.
