    Sake is served liberally here. Happy hour from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays makes this a bargain drinker's paradise.

    The menu has lots of creative signature rolls, and a full palette of entrées completes a comprehensive Japanese bistro menu. Sushi may be the primary attraction, but Kobe beef and deep-fried breaded pork provide a notable and robust contrast.

    Apengo also offers several miso-with-seafood soups and udon dishes.

    The picturesque outdoor patio (with room for 40) gives diners a view of the beachfront, the Long Beach skyline, the Queen Mary and beachgoers along the bike path. For parking, go to the Belmont Plaza Pool beach lot, and park by the Belmont Pier at the far right of the lot. Parking rates are $1 per hour until 6pm daily, and free in the evenings.

    This is the place to come for a hearty meal and good beer. BJ's serves thick steaks, flavorful seafood dishesMore complemented by several regular and seasonal house-brewed beers.

    This popular chain has restaurants in 14 states, with quite a collection in Southern California. The Belmont Shore location is smaller and more intimate than most other locations, but the lack of immensity requires a scaled down bar that only serves house brews, Bud Light and wine.

    This chain's delivery option is a stand-out among similar chain restaurant competitors that primarily only do curbside take out, which BJ's also offers. Another notable attraction here is brunch from 10am to noon on Saturday and Sunday.
