Fans are speculating after a hint was posted Friday on the festival's official website and Facebook page.
News on Coachella 2013 could be coming soon. Festival organizers posted a photo on the official website and Facebook page around 11 a.m. Friday that simply says "Monday 10 a.m. PDT." Both are accompanied by the message, "PSSSSST....... PASS IT ON." No other details have been provided. An email to Coachella organizers instructed to "Please check coachella.com on monday may 14th 10am pdt." and advised "Do NOT buy from a 3rd party/scalper." Followers of the festival are abuzz on Facebook, questioning whether this could be a pre-sale. The adults-only animated Festival premiered early works by then-unknown creators of South Park, Beavis & Butthead, and Wallace & Gromit. Said Robin Williams: "Disney with [breasts]."
Sick, bent and hilarious, Spike and Mike’s Twisted Festival of Animation 2012 will kick off at the Art Theatre in Long Beach Thursday. The festival, which showcases a compilation of gut-wrenchingly funny animation shorts, has theatrically premiered works such as Beavis & Butthead, South Park, Wallace & Gromit as well as the first Pixar animation shorts ever produced. Spike and Mike’s Festival of Animation has been leading presenters of originally created animation and cartoons for the past 25 years, showcasing artists of various styles, from quirky, hand drawn cartoons to computer generated shorts. Actor Robin Williams has described the animation festival as being like “Disney with [breasts].” Past festivals were highlighted by early works…

We were in line for the 7:20 p.m. screening at the Long Beach AMC, with scores of others an hour ahead. Take our poll on the value of 3-D.
So opening Friday night at Belmont Shore's closest cineplex, Marvel Comics' 'The Avengers' delivered as reviews promised, our carload thought. And the expected blockbuster required standing in line about an hour ahead of screening time. By 6:20 p.m., the 6:30 p.m. showing was long sold out, the ticket sellers said, and a line had already formed for the 7:20 p.m. screening. Half the theater was already sold out, probably driven partly by this trailer 28.5 million had viewed by the opening. Fortunately, this Mom had made herself microwave popcorn (hey, even The View host Elizabeth does this) so I was prepared to stand on line while the boys hung out at nearbyBarnes & Noble. The movie was an all-Nintendo-Thumbs-up hit, but the carload divided…

Steve Pendarvis, shaper of Pendoflex, talks about his unique approach to the art of custom surfboards.
Editor's Note: I really liked this Q and A with this board shaper so I asked the Imperial Beach Patch editor if I could share it with our local readers. Anyone who surfs the reefs and beaches of central San Diego has come across the original shapes of Steve Pendarvis and his Pendoflex line of surfboards. The irreverent and innovative Sunset Cliffs surfer is part of a long line of unique San Diego shapers and designers that includes Skip Frye and especially Steve Lis. Steve has worked with Canyon Surfboards, Classic Glass, Superior Glass, and Diamond Glassing. Some of the surfers who have used Steve's boards include Buttons, Dave Rastovish, Dan Malloy and Gavin Beschen. Serge Dedina: When did you first start shaping surfboards? Steve …

This Saturday is a big deal for music lovers in Seal Beach and all over the world, and not just because Radiohead is headlining Coachella Saturday. In case you haven’t heard, this Saturday is Record Store Day, an international celebration of the art of music on vinyl. To mark the occasion, Seal Beach’s Left of the Dial Records will have an in-store performance by the legendary SoCal punk band, Channel 3. “It’s great for independent record stores,” Left of the Dial Records owner Geoff Leamon said. “With the exclusive releases coming out, it drives people to our business because the items are so limited. Facing the biggest "wrecking ball" of his life, my brother believes faith will be rewarded. Bruce Springsteen told him so.
Editor's Note: This piece was written by a Patch columnist on the other side of the country, in West Deptford, New Jersey, and it felt like the perfect Sunday morning read. It's about faith and the healing power of music, especially when it's performed by The Boss. “For the ones who had a notion, A notion deep inside, That it ain't no sin to be glad you're alive.” I remember a time, when I was a little girl, that my brother Mark was very sick. Mark was my first brother, and at the time the youngest in the family. We were born one-two-three, the tag team of myself and Gina born a year apart, and Mark coming a few years later. So at the time I’m remembering, he was about three or four, and I was in first or second grade. I don’t remember the…

Once upon a lifetime I was in the LA 3-D club. Those guys were into 3-D (print and movies) when 3-D was still geeky. If you go to the meetings you'll meet some of the folks who draw some of the 3-D products that you see around. I liked the old stereoscopes, but some members make their own Viewmaster reels and there is a 3-D movie sub-group. Lots of gadgetry. We saw it at the Regal off of the 605…   more ›
