Two Women Robbed in Belmont Shore Tuesday

The Belmont Shore Business Assn. sent out an e-alert from Long Beach Police Department.

Two women were robbed at gunpoint Tuesday norning near Second Street and Laverne, Long Beach Police Department reported, via the Belmont Shore Business Association.

The women were not hurt by the man who displayed a gun at 1:20 a.m., and they handed him their purses, police said. The robbed women were not injured in the hold-up, which occurred as bar closing time neared.

The Long Beach Police Department said there has been no arrest and the investigation is underway. This marks the third time in recent months that a pedestrian on a Belmont Shore street has been robbed. The most recent incident involved a man outside Citibank who was confronted and cash taken from him.

A bystander observed that episode on Second Street in broad daylight, Long Beach police swarmed the area by air and ground, and captured two men shortly after the crime.

They also arrested suspects in the case of two women held up on Nieto near First Street, a residential area of Belmont Shore.

"This morning at approximately 1:20 AM, a male adult suspect brandished a

firearm and robbed two female victims of their purses in the area of 2nd

Street and Laverne. There were no injuries. No arrest has been made. An

investigation is underway.
